Children at High and Low Risk for Depression

This data set contains all probands and their spouses or Generation 1(G1) interviewed at any wave. The data set contains all Best Estimate diagnoses from Waves 1, 3 and 5. At Wave 2, G1 was not Best Estimated and the diagnoses are contained in the SAS data set named w2_sads_rdc. Note the diagnoses created at Waves 1 and 2 were based on Research Diagnostic Criteria. The criteria for Major Depression were modified to include 4 weeks duration and impairment. DSM-III-R criteria were used at Wave 3. G1 did not participate in Wave 4. DSM-IV criteria were used at Wave 5. The diagnoses that are wave only are coded yes if G1 had a diagnosis in the time period between the last interview and the wave denoted in the label. The cumulative diagnoses are coded yes if G1 had a diagnosis at any of the waves in which they were interviewed. The variable that defines whether G1 is from high or low risk families is GROUP. High risk is defined as coming from a family where one or more G1 has MDD. The data set also includes a variety of other data collected at each wave including overall functioning, social adjustment, temperament, parent-child interaction, family adaptability and cohesion, and life events. For a complete list of data collected at each wave go to the Data Summary tab and click on Assessment Summary.
